CogentSpec Q&A

What people want to know

01What is CogentSpec?

CogentSpec is a contract-led production system for working directly with your chosen supported AI model. It gives the model an approved project contract, established production rules, visible requirements, and controlled next actions.

It occupies the middle ground between an uncontrolled prompt-to-product generator and a slow traditional development process: AI productivity with clearer outcomes, approval gates, and genuine ownership of the finished project.

02Is CogentSpec a fire-and-forget system?

No. CogentSpec deliberately keeps the user involved. You choose the project type, inspect and edit its project contract, approve important decisions, and review changes against what has already been agreed.

This controlled approach reduces the risk of receiving a plausible-looking first version that has silently omitted administration, security, accessibility, testing, data controls, or deployment requirements.

03Do I still talk directly to the LLM?

Yes. You remain in direct dialogue with your chosen AI model. CogentSpec does not replace that conversation with an opaque intermediary agent that filters your questions and decisions.

You can explain, question, challenge, and refine the work directly with the LLM. CogentSpec supplies the approved contract, project context, production tools, and control gates around that conversation.

04Why does CogentSpec use project contracts?

A short prompt does not contain the complete production knowledge needed for a dependable project. CogentSpec contract packs provide common requirements, standards, obligations, and validation gates for each project type. Your AI model can therefore begin from an established production framework instead of rediscovering the same foundations for every build.

05Does that remove the need for requirements discovery?

No. Bespoke business requirements still need discussion. CogentSpec reduces repeated discovery by supplying the standard foundations in advance. The conversation can then focus on what is distinctive about your project instead of repeatedly establishing ordinary production requirements.

06How does CogentSpec reduce development time?

The LLM receives a comprehensive rules-based project contract before implementation begins. It does not need to infer every standard, workflow, deliverable, test, or release expectation from a series of disconnected prompts. Less time is spent recovering missing context, rebuilding omitted features, or correcting assumptions late in the project.

07How does it support consistent build quality?

Each project type starts with an appropriate project contract and applies visible validation gates throughout delivery. Important areas such as responsive behavior, administration, accessibility, security, testing, documentation, data handling, and deployment preparation can be included explicitly rather than left to chance.

08Does CogentSpec use the tools I already have?

Yes. CogentSpec is designed to capitalize on the AI subscription, computer, project folders, developer tools, Git provider, and hosting provider you already use. It adds structure and control around that working environment rather than requiring all production activity to move into a proprietary editor.

09Is CogentSpec like Replit, Lovable, or another AI builder?

Not exactly. Those services commonly provide an integrated environment where AI can generate, preview, run, and sometimes host an application. CogentSpec focuses on the production framework around the work: the approved project contract, standards, decisions, changes, evidence, and release readiness.

They can be complementary. An external builder or hosting platform may form part of a delivery route when it satisfies the approved project contract.

10Who owns the resulting project?

You do. CogentSpec is intended to produce ordinary source files, Git history, documentation, and deployment information that remain portable. Your project should not become dependent on CogentSpec merely to keep running, and you remain free to move it to another developer, consultant, repository, or hosting provider.

11What happens when I request a change?

A change is considered against the approved project contract rather than treated as an isolated new prompt. This helps preserve completed work, identify affected requirements, and keep the project coherent as its scope develops.

12Does CogentSpec host the finished project?

CogentSpec is not intended to lock customers into a CogentSpec hosting service. Its Hosting area can assess a completed project and prepare an independent deployment pack containing repository readiness, a host manifest, environment requirements, operational notes, and deployment guidance.

13Does CogentSpec replace developers or consultants?

No. It accelerates repeatable production work and improves the information available to the LLM, but specialist judgement remains important for unusual architecture, regulated environments, security-sensitive systems, organizational change, and consequential business decisions.

14Should I work in the browser or use a desktop workflow?

Choose the supported browser or desktop workflow that suits how you want to work. Working in the browser is an ordinary option, not just an advanced or Linux-based route.

A browser workspace does not by itself authorise access to local project files. Editing files, running commands and using Git on your computer require a supported connection and your authorisation. Connecting a local model through Ollama is also separate from authorising project tools.

Provider requirements and available features differ, and Qwen browser workflows are currently in preview. The Bridge Overview explains the connection choices; each provider's setup guide covers its specific requirements.

Architectural difference

Direct dialogue. Governed delivery.

CogentSpec keeps you in direct conversation with the AI while an approved project contract provides the structure, requirements, controls, and acceptance criteria alongside that conversation.

01

Agentic builders

The agent mediates the work.

Platforms such as Replit-style builders place an AI agent inside their own execution environment. The agent edits files, runs commands, maintains working state, and reports through the platform's agent loop.

The contract governs the work.

You discuss refinements naturally with the AI rather than routing every change through a separate builder agent. The contract keeps delivery controlled without becoming a translation layer between you and the model.
